Coyote Information

coyote in woods

Coyotes are carnivorous wild canines found throughout North America. Resembling domesticated dogs, they can grow to 25 inches tall and weigh up to 35 pounds. Coyotes can adapt well to a variety of environments, mostly due to humans encroaching on their habitat. They are usually found in grasslands and suburban environments. While they aren't normally pack animals like wolves, coyotes travel as a family during the breeding season.

Coyotes regularly invade residential properties and they can cause a considerable amount of damage to pets, livestock, and crops. Coyotes invade human territories in search of food, water, and shelter, although they mostly prefer to avoid people. Livestock like sheep, goats, chickens, and calves, are easy prey for coyotes. They have also been known to attack common household pets like cats, dogs, and rabbits. Coyotes will sometimes kill more than they can eat when feeding on livestock and poultry.
